KERUSAKAN DANAU TONDANO DAN UPAYA KONSERVASI MELALUI PEMBERDAYAAN MASYARAKAT

Abstract

Abstract: Tondano Lake stretches over the area of 4.800 ha and lies at the height of 650 above the sea level. This lake has been relatively rapid silting up, in which the depth of this lake was 43 meters in 1940 and 20 meters in 1992. This silting up is due, shifting cultivation, increased agricultural activities, plantation, eutrofication, water hyacinth, illegal logging, and the extended housing development. Objective of this writing is to find out damages on Tondano Lake as well as conservation efforts. Conservational efforts through social empowerment include: establishment of farmer groups, related extension agents, forming environmental awareness society, social participation in conservation program and strengthening organizational structure.
