Abstract

This study was aimed at describing the effects of teaching methods and achievement motivation and interaction between the two on achievement in physics. This study was an experimental study using 2 x 2 factorial design. Subjects in this study were first year students of Catholic Senior High School of Palu. To analyze the data, a two-way ANOVA was used. Results show that (1) there was a significant difference in physics achievement between the students who were taught using cooperative learning and those who were taught using individual learning (p< 0,05). The achievement mean of the students who were taught using cooperative learning was higher then the achievement mean of the students who were taught using individual learning, (2) ) there was a significant difference in physics achievement between the students with high achievement motivation and those with low achievement motivation (p<0.05). The achievement mean of the students with higher achievement motivation was higher than that of the students with low achievement motivation, and (3) there was no interaction between teaching methods and achievement motivation on the achievement in physics (p>0,05).
