Abstract

Misconception is one of the common problem in understanding the concepts of mathematics and answering questions test of mathematics. Misconseption must be minimalized because the conceptual knowledge is one aspects knowledge within the competency of students of junior high school. Each students has different thinking process in answering questions test of mathematics. There are three stages of thinking process stated by mason whereas entry phase, attack, and review. Thus, this study was aimed to describe misconception in answering algebra question of eightth grade student based on masons' thinking process. The subjects of this research were two students of grade eight chosen based on the result of test of understanding concept completed by CRI. The result of this study shown that based on the thinking process stated by mason, students experinced misconception only at phase attack when equalling the denominator, algebra manipulation and operational of equal tribe.
