Abstract


This study is aimed empirically at investigating whether the means-ends analysis problem solving strategies and conventional problem solving strategies gives different effects on the students mathematics learning outcomes. This study is also aimed at analizing whether difference of creativity by the students can give different effects on the students mathematics learning outcomes. It will empirically anatize whether there is an interaction between problem solving strategies and the creativity of students in the students mathematics learning outcomes. The subyect of study is the first year students of electrical department of Technology Faculty of Medan University, which consists of 56 students and are grouped in to 2 treatment groups. One group is to use means-ends analysis problem solving strategies as the experimental group, and the other group is to use conventional problem solving strategies as the control group. The result of the study shows that the groups which is using means-ends analysis problem solving strategies obtain different mathematics learning outcomes compared to conventional problem solving strategies. Students who have different creativity also achieve different learning outcomes in mathematics. The result of the study also shows any interaction between means-ends analysis problem solving strategies and the creativity at the students in mathematics learning outcomes.
