Abstract

Complaints about the poor quality of literary teaching at schools have always reverberated from the long past to the present day. Attempts at ameliorating this condition are great and many, and yet the real outcomes are still disheartening. One of the causes of such “failure” in teaching literature so far, according to the author, lies in the teachers' meager understanding of the teaching paradigm which suits the very core characteristics of literature. Constructivist teaching paradigm which, among other things, is contextual by nature, seems to be appropriate to the multyinterpretability of literary works. It ensues that this paradigm is highly re-commended for literary teaching and learning. With constructivist paradigm, the teaching of literature takes its grounds on students based learning which is carried out in a liberated, joyful, and meaningful atmosphere.
