Abstract

Education in Indonesia has not been able to create Indonesians who are educated and civilised. This is indicated in social phenomena in which Indonesians are aggressive, hedonistic, materialistic, selective, amoral, insensitive, and uncreative. This social reality is caused by the failure of arts education in Indonesian schools. The roles of arts education are to develop: (1) physique, (2) perception, (3) cognitive, (4) emotion, (5) creativity, (6) social ability, and (7) aesthetics. Arts education aims at developing creativity and sensitivity to catch aesthetic values in arts. In social contexts, arts education has expression media, communication media, exploration media, and talent development.
