Abstract


This research aims at describing the literary quality of Inpres textbooks for SD. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative. The source of data is Inpres textbooks for SD. The data are collected through content analysis and analytic reflection. In general it is found that the books have below standard quality, the flow of the stories is too long, not focused, and plain, although the relationship of events is clear. The majority of the stories have children as the characters but with adult characteristics, use children world but lack imagination, put the writers as adults so that they are teaching, do not use language styles optimally to effect beauty and fantasy, use the themes of philosophy, religion, morality, social affairs, and culture. The missions are to motivate children (readers) to do good deeds and avoid bad deeds. The format of the books looks less attractive.
