DEVELOPING AUDIO-VISUAL MEDIA OF FABLES AND FOLKTALES FOR ENGLISH SPEAKING ACTIVITY IN JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL CLASSROOM

Abstract


This study aims at developing a simple audio-visual media of folktales and fables as media for speaking activity in Junior High School. The research adopts R&D design. The media is in the form of Flash media. There are two self-made digital stories and two narrated stories from folktales and fables in Asia. Each story is followed up by questions. Three classes were used as the participant in the tryout. For instruments, a checklist was used by the experts and English teachers; another checklist was used by the students. The result showed that the product is well accepted and liked by both students and teachers.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan media audio-visual sederhana yang dapat digunakan sebagai media dalam kegiatan berbicara di Sekolah Menengah Pertama. Penelitian ini mengadaptasi desain R & D yang digagas oleh Borg dan Gall. Terdapat dua cerita digital dan dua cerita bernarasi dari fabel dan dongeng dari Asia. Setiap cerita disertai dengan beberapa pertanyaan. Tiga kelas digunakan sebagai partisipan dalam uji coba. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah checklist yang diisi oleh guru, ahli media, dan siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa produk diterima dengan baik dan disukai baik oleh siswa maupun guru.
