Abstract


The purpose of this study is to describe the resistance of teachers towards the instructional renewal. This research employed the qualitative approach with the design of multi-site studies and the constant comparative method. Data were collected through interview technique, participant observation, and documentary study. Data analysis was conducted by using a descriptive technique containing three steps: (1) data reduction, (2) data display, and (3) conclusion drawing/verification. The examination of data trustworthiness was conducted to fulfill the criteria of: (a) credibility, (b) transferability, (c) dependability, and (d) confirmability. The research results are as follows. The resistance of teachers towards instructional renewal is derived from: (a) patterned old habit, (b) anxiety towards the consequence of organizational development, (c) unfinished implementation of the renewal program in the past, (d) teachers' less understanding about the program, (e) the renewal program that was mostly "top-down", and (f) teachers' anxiety with the effectiveness of renewal program.
