Abstract

Abstract: This research is a case study that explores the error in concept construction of undergraduate students’ with very negative mathematical identity. The construction was examined through the APOS theory. The student participating in the study was a student in the accounting department. Results showed that the student with very negative mathematical identity did not think much when choosing the most suitable measure of central tendency for a particular data. The student did not take into account the existence of outlier and mode, how the mean involves every data element, and whether the data distribution was normal or not.
